History Of Choppers As I See It – music news

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

No one knows who exactly built the first choppers, but it is generally agreed upon that they were built by soldiers returning home from WWII. Soldiers who had ridden bikes in Europe found that the Harleys being produced in the US were slow and bulky, something that is still true today. In an effort to lighten these bikes up the riders started to remove unnecessary parts and “bob” the fenders. Had the European motorcycles been readily available in America I believe that these bikers might have abandoned Harley right then and we would have a completely different biker scene than what we have today.

These early modified bikes were called Bobbers and the term Choppers actually didn’t get popular until the sixties and early seventies. Most sources reference the movie Easy Rider as the start of the cultural phenomena, but national music news about the antics of the Hells Angels certainly had the image of the biker outlaw already fixed in the public’s eye, a much badder version than we saw in the movie The Wild One from 1953.

The new generation that was chopping bikes made their own style by not just bobbing the bikes but by adding additional rake and longer front ends and of course the obligatory sissy bar. The bikes we know as choppers were born. I think it’s interesting that even though the two terms “bobber” and “chopper” became distinct 40 years ago they are now being used interchangeably, mostly by people who don’t really understand the terms at all.

The choppers of the late sixties went from just being bobbed Harleys with no turn signals and mirrors to being also modified bikes with ape hanger handle bars, like Sonny Barger was using back in the late 50′s, skinny front tires and the already mentioned sissy bar. Now we were no longer just removing unnecessary parts but were also adding a few touches of our own. Back then there were no “custom bike builders” and most of the work was being done in the rider’s own garage. As we went into the seventies, builders began to get really creative and the bike as a form of art was born.

Artist David Mann captured the entire chopper lifestyle in his work, and builders actually tried to now build bikes based on Mann’s more extreme artistic interpretations of what choppers could look like. The bikes that Dave imagined soon came into actually being. The seventies were definitely made for custom bikes.

Interest in motorcycles kind of fizzled out around during the 80′s when young people were more interested in building muscle cars out of models from the late sixties and seventies than they were in motorcycles. At the same time a lot of riders were converting to Japanese sport bikes and moving away from the Harley scene and any choppers you did see just seemed like relics from a bygone era. The biker scene didn’t go away by any means, but it definitely went underground as far as the general population was concerned.

Of course, everything we know today about custom motorcycle building as been brought about by cable TV trying to fill the dead air with stories about anything they could and the first show done about Jesse James was never intended to turn into a new television genre, but it did. The well-to-do suddenly decided they needed a custom bike and not knowing any of the history of motorcycles they immediately started calling every custom motorcycle a chopper, even though by definition it wasn’t. In fact the bikes made popular by builders not on TV were usually more in the style of Pro Street motorcycles that were run on the drag tracks then by anything that resembled a true chopper, with a few notable exceptions.

As the desire for custom bikes and motorcycles in general bloomed in more middle class citizens, these new riders were more likely to take the time and understand their bikes, many of which had to learn to work on them out of pure necessity, like the original bikers did. Motorcycles and custom bikes became an acceptable form of fun for everyone and the image of the outlaw biker as been converted into the lawyer or plumber biker.

Even though we still have some real choppers being built, the true meaning of the word has probably been lost forever, but not the spirit of those that built them. As custom bikes go out of style we’re left with a very large core group of new riders who will now ride the rest of their lives, and many of them will be also building choppers.

Invite the children to a wedding

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

During the planning stages of a couples wedding, the question comes up so often whether to invite kids to their wedding. With today’s weddings, you’ll attend wedding receptions that’ll have the children from all ages enjoying the party celebrations almost as much as the adults, but then you attend other receptions with no children present at all. So there is no real tradition set, it’s a decision made by the bride, groom and sometimes their parents may have some influence as well.

When kids are attending, there seems to be more attention set on them while they get out and Do you like to dance and surf? on the floor to the beat of the music, or they may steal the show during the bride and groom Do you like to dance and surf?, but as you know, that it not their intentions. They’re there to enjoy themselves just as the adults are. If you think back to when you were a kid and attending your aunt or uncles wedding, you remember the fun and the lasting memories as you celebrated their wedding bliss.

If your decision is to include the kids to your wedding reception, there are some things you can provide that can entertain them. Remember, weddings can be tailored to fit anyway you want, there’s no set rules that apply, only your rules. Here’s some ideas to include that will keep them entertained and also they will enjoy the company of the other children as well.

  • Create a Kids Corner or an area that can be just their area if there’s enough room in the reception hall.
  • Provide fruit juices in the small squeeze boxes or bottles, this may keep them away from the pop at the bar area. Plus with juice, they will feel it just their own and there’s no sugar buzz for the hyper effect.
  • There should be activities for them to do. Spread some coloring books and crayons around or put a set at each of their place setting. Another idea maybe little foamy puzzles to be put together. Another idea maybe sticker books filled with wedding items like the wedding cake, brides and grooms ring, wedding bells, or doves to name a few. Another creative idea that would be fun and will entertain them is to make or purchase a large maze and either hang it on the reception hall wall or use it as a table covering. Another idea is possibly using one of the teens at the wedding to oversee a scavenger hunt or some word or trivia games.
  • Not many kids as you know are into the food at the wedding with the exception of the beautiful wedding cake. So instead of paying that cost per plate for the kids, why not bring in a few $5.00 pizzas. What kid wouldn’t prefer pizza over baked chicken and mosticholi, peas and corn. This would be much cheaper than paying $14.00 – $24.00 a plate for a child you know won’t eat maybe $2.00 worth!

Time for desert, this by far is a favorite by kids and adults alike. Of course there is the wedding cake for the guests but, most of the time there is left over cake batter and frosting, right. The thought is, why not use the left over to make cupcakes for the kids. Cupcakes also work very well if you are setting up a candy buffet which is a new trend to add to the wedding reception.

Internet Marketing Basics

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Internet marketing can seem mystifying not only for beginners, but for moderately skilled internet marketers. With all the courses, forums, blogs, reports, seminars and teleconferences available to help people learn how to get traffic to their sites, it is one of the most overwhelmingly dense subjects on the internet.

Unfortunately, and this is perfectly true, most of the advice or “expert” tips are outdated or completely false. Since anyone can publish on the internet, you have a mixed bag of good information followed with much more bad information.

The mysticism of internet marketing is created largely by this glut of some good and mostly bad information. It makes the whole topic SEEM like rocket science when, in fact, much of what was true about internet marketing years ago is true today.

Most people think that since search engine marketing changes every five minutes, that ALL internet marketing tactics must have changed as much in the same amount of time. Not true.

The basics, like trading links, article syndication, testimonials, forum signatures, joint ventures, affiliate programs – most work as well today as they did years ago. That is, if you know how to value the work above for what it will truly do for your website traffic.

Funny thing is, no one places much value on the above tactics anymore because there is always some “new” tactic around the corner that claims the death of everything that came before it. And most people blindly follow that advice as if it were true.

Most of the time, this is to the detriment of their internet marketing efforts. The basics are what work all the time and what have always worked on the internet.

You can always experiment with new things, as long as you have not forgotten to do the basics. The basics proven to drive traffic, page rank, link popularity, and branding to your business.

Conservative, relevant reciprocal linking
Article syndication
Participation in your field and among your market (forums)
Blogging
Offline advertising
Non-reciprocal linking tactics
Press releases
…and many other proven methods.

Everything else is just a big experiment until proven to work over time. “Over time” being the operative words. Lots of flash in the pan crack pot schemes work for awhile. But most never stand the test of time.

Links from a widely syndicated article will never fade away, yet I see people chasing down fly-by-night linking pyramid schemes as if they truly believe something like that is a smart thing to base their internet business on!

Tens of thousands have walked away from their dreams, gone back to their depressing, predictable, slave-labor jobs never knowing how close they were to actually succeeding.

Good people have left this business proclaiming it an utter lie that any average person can make it with an internet business and an internet marketing plan.

I guess there is truth in that statement. Average people do in fact quit this business before they ever get started because average people fall for tricks and schemes that above average people avoid on their way to success.

If you have read this far, you are probably in the above average category. Why? Because average people would have take one look at the list of things I mentioned that are the bread and butter of internet marketing and saw nothing but hard work. And they’d be right!

Above average people don’t shy away from work though. I don’t know a single soul (and my rolodex has some of the biggest names in internet marketing in it) who got where they are today without a lot of hard work.

You can succeed in internet marketing if you are not afraid to work, and not constantly tempted by those who say you can succeed without it!

Focus on the basics of internet marketing and stay with them as you try new strategies. We all experiment. But successful internet marketers never leave their bread and butter tactics behind unless they cease to be effective.

It’s the news no b&b cavanier wants to hear – union staff have voted to walk out. Not only do you have to find interim help that’s willing to cross picket lines; you have to find guests who are also willing to do so.

A work strike could cost your company more than just dollars. As with the case of the downtown Chicago Sheraton b&b cavan locations facing such a strike the last week of October 2009, staffing shortages could seriously impede your business as usual. In the case of the Sheraton unionized workers, over 1,000 staffers were set to vote on whether to walk. Finding replacement help – adequate replacement help – is a crippling task. What’s more, interim staff have a higher risk associated with them. Because they’re not familiar with your business model, there’s a good chance your guest relations ratings could suffer. Not to mention the variables you can’t control – temporary employee unreliability, theft, and the chance that these employees weren’t vetted properly. Inefficient performance is one thing – guest safety, entirely another.

If your b&b cavan business has union workers, chances are you’ll face a contract negotiation standstill at some point. In many cases, misunderstandings and ill feelings can be offset with a strong internal communications process. For Sheraton workers, the issues were benefits cuts and job losses. While it’s unknown how well Sheraton’s management handled each issue, it stands to reason that an informed employee is a more content employee.

Work with your b&b cavan insurance broker to discuss the processes of dealing with union workforces. In most cases, the b&b cavan insurance broker will recommend a risk management assessment or consultation, which could reduce significantly your exposure to strike-related losses. Also, if your workforce is in danger of striking, check with your b&b cavan insurance broker to understand your coverage options and additional coverage requirements during any strike.

Weddings Tips

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Weddings are fun and fantastic fantasies in which you get to play royalty for a weekend. You get to dress to the nines, field compliments and build memories that will last a lifetime. Weddings are about princesses and princes and a fairytale ending. Weddings are events that are spontaneous or planned to the second are that will be smiled upon for many years.

From the time that you are young, you are raised to believe that there is one person in the world who can make your life complete. It is the fairy tale that we want along with its promise of a happy ending that we are brought up to desire. Once you find the one person who will complete your life, plans are made to form a life-long union.

Weddings are built on the thought that they will last eternally and every step is taken to make the day as special as the pledge itself. From a hallowed basilica to a spring backyard, weddings can take place anywhere. Weddings are held on baseball fields, on board the lunar space station, in hot air balloons in the Napa Valley, on board a ship in the Caribbean or a chic b&b cavan in Austin, Texas. Weddings are as unique as the people who are going to be wed.

Weddings can also be held on the top of a ski-hill, on the beach in Waikiki, or at the spot where two people first met. As long as two people want to get married, the wedding can be anything that you want it to be. Lavish reception halls can be decorated with balloons, floating candles in crystal bowls or by using the rocks and sand that are elements of feng sui. Weddings are followed by receptions, but don’t have to be in halls, the reception can be held in a home or backyard or a bar anywhere that will hold the people who are gathering to celebrate the union.

A backyard reception is great if you are able to allow for inclement weather. There is nothing better than a lovely garden as a setting for weddings. Beautiful blooms frame the yard and provide natural decor that will enhance the day with wonderful smells. Roses, lilies both of varying colors and varieties are wonderful for weddings; of course they are very traditional flowers, too. For the unusual, orchids come in endless colors and varieties and add an exotic feel to weddings.

Whether weddings are formal or casual affairs, the true measure of great weddings are whether or not the couple is happy with their day. Unexpected things may happen, but as long as the couple keeps their focus on the meaning and beauty of the day, there is little that can actually ruin weddings. It pays to have a back-up plan if you are holding an outdoor ceremony or reception, but if you roll with the forecast and simply focus on your vows, the day will be priceless and rich in memories.

Start a Computer Business

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

There’s never been a better time to start a computer business.  While the overall economy is in the tank, advertising expenditures on the internet are constantly going up.  The internet is sucking all of the advertising from print and television.

What is even better is that it is incredibly easy to start a computer business.  There’s very little cost involved and you can get started in your spare time without leaving your job.

The first thing that I have to tell you about starting an internet business is that there is not one single model to follow.  Many people who want to get started online find that there are so many models that it is overwhelming.  When you do your research, keep in mind that there are many ways to make money and you have to find the one that is right for you.

There are three different basic business models for those wanting to start a computer business.  You can either create a product to sell yourself, sell other people’s products, or provide a service.  All business models boil down to one of these three concepts.

When most people think of products, they think of physical goods.  Indeed, you can sell physical products like crocheted doilies or your home baked chocolate chip cookies through the internet.  But remember, when people go online, they are largely looking for information.  So, creating an information product is the fastest way to make money online.

It is interesting that people will pay $15 for a paperback book at the bookstore that runs 300 pages, but they will pay $47 for a 60 page ebook that they download and print out on their own paper.  However, that’s the economic reality of the internet.  And, instead of having a publisher who gives you a dollar or two for the product, you get to keep the whole amount.

The next thing you can provide is services.  If you write well, have graphic design skills, or can whip up a software program with ease, you can offer your services on the internet.  There are sites like elance and rentacoder where buyers and sellers of such services meet.  You can also go to forums where internet marketers chat and strike up relationships with people who can help you get started and who want to use your services.

Finally, if you want to start a computer business, you can sell other people’s products.  This is called “Affiliate Marketing.”  Basically, you are the middle man between the buyer and seller.

You can sell physical products ranging from house wares to diamond jewelry as an affiliate marketer.  You can also sell other people’s information products.

Affiliate commissions range from 4% to 75% of the total sale price.  Because many information products offer 75% of relatively high purchase prices, many affiliate marketers begin by selling information products.  The largest clearing house of information products is clickbank.com where 10,000 products are available for you to sell.

Once you choose a business model, you can begin to figure out how to make sales.  But don’t jump around from one thing to another always in hopes of jumping the “next big thing” bandwagon.  Rather, decide on a model that works for you and run with it.  That’s how you start a computer business in your spare time.

Chicago Condos Market Overview —

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

When it comes to the condo culture in the USA, the city of Chicago was believed to play a pioneering role of sort. In no other US cities, you will find so many high rise condos. Despite the sub-prime crisis, Chicago condos market has remained stable. The proof? The industry continued to reflect steady growth with increasing average prices. New condo projects were unveiled across the city. However, if you plan to invest in Chicago condos right now, you should find out and put your money in the hottest condo location in the city. Downtown Chicago and the northern fringes of the city are two areas that seem to hold maximum promise right now.

The present Chicago condos market can clearly be categorized as buyers’ market. Let’s explain why? During the boom period, a number of brand new condo projects took off. Many vacant lofts and apartment houses were converted to condos to meet with the boom time demands. Both the existing and new condos are currently attracting buyers; but it is a clear preference toward new units that is shaping a new Chicago condos market. Huge numbers of fresh residential developments are under construction and they are expected to add thousand more units to the existing market. This good supply of Chicago condos will put the buyers in an advantageous position and now it will be possible for the buyers to strike a favorable deal.

Most of these projects are to be found downtown or in the close vicinity. Certain parts of the city are going through the process of complete makeover with a number of stylishly designed sky scrappers hitting the scene. For example, the case of New East Side, which happens to be a small strip lying between the Chicago River, Lake Shore Drive, Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue. A large-scale residential development called Lakeshore East, which comprises 14 residential towers, is under construction in this part of the Loop. It is slated for completion in 2010.

Another two luxury Chicago condo projects that have attracted worldwide attention are Trump b&b cavan & Tower and the Chicago Spire. While the Donald Trump creation is located in the upscale River North neighborhood, just across the river from the Loop, Chicago Spire is closer to Lake Michigan.

While Trump Tower is a 96-story building offering nearly 500 luxury residences, Chicago Spire is going to be a 150-story residential building offering 1,200 units. The property is scheduled for completion by 2012.

The High end Chicago condos market is being fuelled by the baby boomers on the one hand and the young thirty home hunters on the other hand. Although age-wise they are in the two extreme ends of the spectrum, when it comes to the choice of the home, their requirements are more or less same. Both of them are in the need of high quality, low maintenance homes. With these two significant parts of the population entering the buyer’s market in a big way, the Chicago condos market surely has a bright future ahead. So if you are planning to make some real estate investment right now, Chicago condos can be safe bet for you.
